"Night time Magic! Catching Fireflies in the Moonlight!"

Hope, Illumination and Awakening. These are only some of the meanings of the beautiful firefly. Draw your girl amid these majestic creatures. Are they in awe, do they try to catch them? Tell us about their night regarding these fireflies!

-------------------

Of course Lurdes enjoyed the Skateboard competitions; she had been very fortunate to rise through the professional ranks so quickly and be able to score sponsorships and her own line, "Murillo". She loved having the chance to travel meet up with the other athletes and face off, share new tricks, be challenged by peers and inspire others. Her fans, especially the younger girls who looked up to her, inspired her to work harder and achieve greater feats. She always had time to stop and chat a little, and tried when she could to skate with them somewhere in town. This summer had been hard though, and she snuck off earlier than usual to one of the many parks around the edges of the southern city the event was taking place. The shrill cries of the cicadas almost drowned out the sound of her skateboard as she headed down the trail behind the parking lot. There were a couple miles of paved track through the forest, with wetland ensuring all sorts of birds were singing the day to sleep as the twilight and the noisy insects and frogs took over the serenade duties. She wasn't afraid of anything out here; people didn't scare her and any reptiles in the water wouldn't likely want to mess with her on her board, so she simply let herself get lost in thought. Abuela hadn't been gone more than a month, and this was the first skating event she had left home to attend since. It was the first time she hadn't been there to say a prayer for her safe flight before kissing her cheek and telling her how proud she was of her. There were no freshly made treats in her luggage, and when she called to tell her mom she has arrived safely in Florida, she forgot and asked to speak to her grandmother before they both remembered. She knew that it was going to be a long time before she got used to not having her there, and for now it was fresh and tears stung her eyes. She was grateful no one was around as she banked her board to a stop and flopped down on a handy bench in a more overgrown part of the trail. The murky water opposite from the bench suited her mood, and the insects' roar covered a new sound as Lu indulged herself in a good cry. It got fully dark before she was feeling a little better, and she sighed, getting ready to turn on the flashlight on her cell phone to illuminate her way back. She discovered it wasn't needed though, as the wetlands had provided for her; hundreds, perhaps thousands of fireflies had filled the air and danced over the water, their bioluminescence reflecting in the still surface and appearing to double their numbers. It was as if the stars in the heavens had come down to join her. Lurdes didn't share the religious beliefs of some of her family; she didn't know or really think too much about things like that, but she was, if nothing else, filled with the memory of her Abuela's love. She leaned back against the bench to watch the weaving dance of the glowing beetles, as well as the bats that swooped here and there to gather up the mosquitoes that should have been biting at her if it wasn't for their guard. There was life and energy in abundance here in the almost soupy night heat. She may be carrying a weight in her mind and an empty spot in her heart, but there was so much to enjoy and even if she could not tell her in person... Lurdes sighed a somewhat shakey sigh and begun to quietly talk to the fireflies and the bats, the cicadas and the unseen creatures under the water about her taking second place in the boarding event. If she was still with her, then she would hear it. And if not, well, perhaps the lightening bugs would enjoy her story.

Watercoloring Lurdes when I've been especially ill has become a thing >_< Maybe because she's rather reserved, but has a soaring spirit inside? Anyway, when I was a kid living in Texas, we (my mom, grandmother, and little brother) sometimes drove up to the New Mexico mountains for a few days to camp or stay at a hotel. In the summer, I used to sit out and watch fireflies, sometimes catching them before releasing them. I adored them, but couldn't bear to keep them stuffed up due to their short lifespans once adults. But I'll always remember how much I loved sitting out in the hot night air watching them.

And with that, all event things done!
